Mastodon could really use tombstone placeholders when a reply is deleted so the tree/chain isn't broken or orphaned.
I've implementing this in Loops, and it is a bit tricky federation wise, but it makes the experience much better.

I had such a blast at #FediCon chatting with other developers like @jesseplusplus and @julian
I wonder if they would be down to have a video chat to finish discussing these topics, and maybe we could turn this into a recurring event and invite other devs.
I'm hopeful, let's do it
@thisismissem @pixelfed The fix was shipped and announced in March.

I'm working on collection sync, but that is a Mastodon extension that isn't supported in most software keep in mind.
Maybe you could have reached out privately instead of publicly shaming an open source fediverse project into implementing a Mastodon-only fix.
We do accept PRs, and you could have contributed a fix to help ship sync quicker if you did really care (adonis is based on laravel, php is ez)
@deadsuperhero @thisismissem the fix was shipped months ago, thanks for spreading misinformation!
We ended up spending $450 on Ubers in Vancouver for #FediCon
It was worth it though, my first time in a Uber and Tesla, and I have a new found appreciation for public transit haha
I didn't want to drive our new Durango around in that crazy traffic, so we had to Uber around, but, I will say, staying by the airport saved us over a thousand dollars compared to downtown hotels.
Next time, we will take the subway
(btw, yes it has a #hemi and isn't cheap on gas, but it is so fun to drive )
During our #FediCon panel, when asked about Trust and Safety, I remember @johannab saying that we should be funding @thisismissem because she is an expert in this field and very underpaid, and then there was a huge round of applause!
Please consider helping fund her crucial work if you can, we all depend on her contributions to make the fediverse safer and more secure!
It's wild that I was able to discuss federation/ActivityPub with other developers in person.
This was my first conference and also the first time I ever met another developer IRL.
Sitting in a loud pub and hearing @julian backfilling proposal was iconic
When I asked about how to handle private/follower-only activities, he paused and said he only considered public activities, so I'll be working on that.
And @jesseplusplus and I will be working on Stories + Circles together!
Gosh it was fun
I'm back home and catching up bug reports and stuff!
Had such a blast at #FediCon
I had a really interesting and productive chat with @jesseplusplus and @julian at #FediCon about comment/reply backfilling and look forward to collaborating with them on this massive UX improvement.
For those unaware, @jesseplusplus is the creator of @frequency, an innovative photo sharing platform, similar to Pixelfed! @julian is the creator of NodeBB, a gorgeous forum software!
FediCon was amazing, I never knew I had this many fans and supporters and to meet them in person was iconic, sometimes the haters can give the impression they are a majority, but nope
The real ones know who keeps it real π«Ά
