Hello,
just recently found out that NodeBB supports ActivityStream, great! We are running the Forum for UBports and Ubuntu Touch at https://forums.ubports.com and my first idea was that I could make the News category discoverable for the Fediverse.
So after some fiddling I managed to publish https://forums.ubports.com/category/41/news correctly it seems, as I can search, see and subscribe this from Mastodon:

But so far no new posts do appear. What am I doing wrong here, or do I have wrong expectations

Thanks BR Florian

@Flohack hi! Sounds like the forum is an upgrade and not a new installation, so activitypub is probably not enabled by default.
It does sound like you figured that out. So can you please send me a screenshot of the privileges page for that category?
Also perhaps you need to grant the view users privilege in global privs.

I wasn't able to mention your account on the UBports forum. So that's why I think the view users privilege might be the issue.
-
Hi Julian, indeed its an upgrade. I figured the general enable switch as well as those privileges:

However, I did not check global privs so far.

@Flohack might be the view users privilege needs to be on otherwise other services can't resolve the authoring user and drop the activity...

Ok its enabled now, lets see!

@[email protected] Ok that seems to work. Writing now from the forum

@[email protected] Ok so far so good. But the category still has no posts on "the other side" - any idea how this will happen - only with the next new post?

@[email protected] from Mastodon you can manually "pull in" posts by searching for the post URL (not the topic)
-
@[email protected] ah ok but what does subscribe to category then actually mean? I mean its possible, it shows subscribers in the category settings etc.

@[email protected] subscribing to the category means new topics will be delivered to the follower.
The manual search is just for manually backfilling posts.

Ok so, after turning on all the right permissions and subscribing to this category, from now on new stuff should appear right?

Let's hope so!
