“Linux ‘just works’—if you can see.
If you’re blind?
You boot into a live image and get nothing.
No speech. No braille. No login prompt feedback. Maybe Orca starts, maybe not.
Maybe you know the shortcut (Alt+Super+S?) but does that even work in this session type?
Is it Wayland? Is it X11? Is the screen reader bound to a key combo that doesn’t exist on your keyboard? You open the installer?
‘Next. Button. Button. Button. Button.’ That’s all Orca says.”

@[email protected] Who actually says Linux "just works"? Linux's defining trait is that it doesn't do anything until you explicitly tell it three times while spinning on your head howling at the blood moon of Grog.

@drew Linux has been pretty drama-free for me for a long time. Windows is actually more annoying to use these days. But I’m sighted (for now, anyway).

[email protected] I think it's a lot to expect from something that is put together for free by individuals (or for pay by corporations who have different priorities).
However I'm certain the PRs are welcome

@julian If your reaction to a blind user describing problems they have using open source software is "that sounds hard, go fix it yourself lol," I cannot stress enough how much you need to unfollow me right now. It makes me feel gross knowing there are people on my follower list with that little empathy.

[email protected] no, I don't think I will do that.
